So Worth It
As most of you know, I work at a dentist office. I'm in charge of the children's program. Most of the time I really like it, however there are those certain kids that I'd rather kill then nicely polish their teeth. Then there are those other kids who make it all worth while. James is one of those little kids. I met him last week, he was a new patient and it was love at first sight. He's a five year old little black boy, and before you think that I'm sounding totally racist you must realize that I have a special place in my heart for little black kids. Maybe it's because some of my cousins are black, or maybe it's just that I think they are cuter then little white kids. Either way him being black did, I'm sure, lead to me liking him even more. Anyway we hit it off right away last Wednesday, by the end of the cleaning he was asking if he could work here with me, and he kept telling his mom that this place was totally awesome. Oh and another thing, he can't pronounce the letter "f" so when he told me that he was five it came out as "sive". Oh my god, so very cute. So anyway I write these connection cards everyday to a couple kids that I saw that day, of course he got one. Then today he had an appointment for a filling. Since I work in the front office on Mondays (or rather act like I'm working while I blog...cough) I was able to go observe while he got those done. It started out by them walking in and when he saw me he got all excited and started saying thank you so much for writing him a letter. Then I walked him over to Dr. Cate's office and he asked if I would sit with him while he got his fillings. While he was in the chair we were talking and he stopped all of a sudden and kinda shyly said, "Ms. Jaime....I really like you." Oh lord, I thought that I was going to die. Of course I told him that I really liked him too. After the filling was done, he was sitting in the chair and I was sitting by him talking to him and he reached over and took my hand, and didn't let go till he got up to leave. We walked back over to my room to get him a prize and before he left he gave me a big hug. I think I might be in love! He's such a sweet little one, and very talkative too. So yeah when there are brat kids who won't even open their mouths, I will just look at James's picture on my wall and remember that some kids make it all worth it.
